Some people can tolerate having this in the game, some just won't. Most of the reviews I have seen so far say that the lootboxes are easy to ignore.īut hey, the game isn't out yet, so take all of this with a grain of salt. But all of this comes from an article where they haven't really played through the content to back up the claim. Meaning they didn't actually try to play further that much, meaning they don't really know if you need to grind like that at all. But they say the didn't, and will not, try to get the true ending. Which is where the grind comes in I guess, because you need money and orcs. Which you don't need to do at all if you just play the game. You will need powerful orcs to make it easier, and they say that the easiest way to get them is to pay for them. You know, content where you use all of the skills and abilities you have accumulated throughout the game. They then state that to see the real ending you will have to play through hours of fun, but grindy content. Meaning the thing you have been doing the whole time, attacking and taking over strongholds, will be done against you. Which states that, spoilers I guess: after beating the game your captured strongholds will have to be defended. from what I can see this belief comes from the Polygon article about the game. The true ending of the game is locked behind a 4th act that consists of mainly grinding, and depending on who you talk to it's pretty much designed for taking advantage of lootboxes. I've got enough games to last me well into next year (or the rest of my life.) and I don't really need to play this one right Lootboxes. #Middle earth shadow of mordor goty dlc on disc fullTheir existence also brings into the question the balance of the game: does it take longer to get things? Is your time being wasted because they want you to buy out of actually playing the game? And if it doesn't affect the speed at which you progress, why is it in there in the first place? At that point it's just gross begging and it doesn't have a place in a product that's being sold for full price.Īnyway, pass on this one, until it's $5 on sale like Mordor is now. Buying it is implicitly supporting the addition of gambling mechanics in games as long as their bottom line isn't impacted, they'll continue to put these sorts of things in games moving forward. Regardless of whether or not you personally engage with them, there will be a group of people who dump money into this thing. The problem with loot boxes in a game like this is that you're being charged the full price upfront, and then they're asking for more of you whenever you play.
